Who does Lucas House support?
Young people with complex learning and/or mental health needs or Autism. Lucas House has its own specialist multi-disciplinary team, including Positive Behaviour Support, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy, their input plus the skills of our staff team offer a robust and enabling care-pathway for young people.
The house is a large detached home with 5 bedrooms, 1 with ensuite and the others sharing two bathrooms. All the rooms are very large, there is an open plan lounge, kitchen and dinning room, plus a very large garden. The home is situated in a quite road, approximately 15 minutes-walk from High Wycombe town centre and all transport links.
Do the young people have a tenancy?
They sign a tenancy agreement, but don’t hold the responsibility for it. The funding authority also sign the tenancy agreement and pay their rent and utilities until they are 18 years old and can have the responsibility for their own tenancy. The young person can stay in the home after they are 18, but we would work with them and their local authority to consider alternative supported living options as their skills develop.
What about community support?
Lucas House has good positive links with the local CAMHS team who will make contact with each young person as required following their admission to the home. Handover from existing CAMHS will take place as part of any transition process.
What about Education and Leisure?
Lucas House has a downloadable community guide detailing a range of community interests. Each young person’s educational needs are different. We work with their local authority and any existing educational departments to design a new educational plan in line with their needs. We have access to and good links with a range of further education opportunities locally.
